Initially, they crafted simple tools from stones, wood, and other materials to assist in hunting, farming, and other activities. This marked the beginning of what we call primitive technology or stone tools.

As time progressed, humans transitioned from a hunter-gatherer lifestyle to farming and animal husbandry. They also began using tools made from metals such as copper and iron. These were known as ancient technology or metal tools.

In the medieval period, humans made significant advancements in science, art, religion, and politics. They also started employing new technologies such as steam engines, compasses, and others. These were categorized as medieval technology or pre-industrial tools.

Then, in the 18th and 19th centuries, humans experienced the industrial revolution, a massive shift from manual to mechanical production. They began utilizing modern technologies such as electricity, telegraphs, and automobiles. These were referred to as industrial technology or modern tools.

In the 20th and 21st centuries, humans witnessed the information revolution, marked by a significant shift from analog to digital communication. They started using advanced technologies like computers, the internet, and robots. These are known as information technology or digital tools.
