jlk – There is an old saying that goes, “With friends like these, who needs enemies?” This is perhaps what United States President Joe Biden feels when looking at the actions of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Netanyahu, a leader known for his hard-line approach to the conflict in Gaza, seems to have left Biden feeling frustrated.
According to Biden, Netanyahu’s approach is doing more harm to Israel than good. Ironically, Netanyahu is a US ally.
Biden, in a rather bold statement, said that Netanyahu should be paying more attention to the innocent lives being lost. “In my view, he’s hurting Israel more than saving Israel,” Biden said.
Imagine soccer as an analogy. Netanyahu is a player who is always trying to score goals, without regard for the impact of his actions on his own team.
Meanwhile, Biden is the coach trying to guide his team to play collectively and efficiently.
But in the world of international politics, there is no referee who can show a red card to Netanyahu. Biden can only watch and hope that Netanyahu will change.
As Albert Einstein said:
“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.” Perhaps this is what Netanyahu needs to understand.
There is a cat that is always chasing its own tail. The cat spins around endlessly, trying to catch its tail.
But every time it almost catches it, the tail scampers away. This may be how Netanyahu feels. He keeps chasing a “tail” that can never be caught, while his own “body” grows more tired and wounded.
Biden and Netanyahu, two world leaders with differing views. One trying to create peace, the other fighting in his own way. But one thing is certain: international politics is a stage of drama full of irony.
And perhaps, as the famous writer George Orwell said:
“In an age of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act.” May truth always guide our political actions.
