jlk – The new social media platform, Threads, by Meta, has achieved a remarkable feat by surpassing the popularity of X Twitter on iOS devices. Data from Appfigures reveals that Threads has been downloaded more than three times as much as X Twitter on the App Store.
Threads is a microblogging platform similar to X Twitter, but with several additional intriguing features. Users on Threads can edit posts within five minutes of publishing, quote others’ posts, and share content to Instagram and Facebook.
Although it experienced a dip in daily active users in its first month after launch, Meta has been continuously working on enhancing the appeal of Threads by rolling out feature updates regularly.
Meta’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, is optimistic about Threads’ progress. He states that Threads currently boasts 130 million monthly active users, with Meta aiming to reach 1 billion users in the future.
Zuckerberg also emphasizes that Threads users are more engaged compared to the initial debut of the application.
Meanwhile, X Twitter faces several challenges, including issues with verified bot accounts, rebranding the company to X Corp, and competition from new social media platforms like Bluesky.
Despite having a large user base with 500 million monthly active users at the end of the previous year, X Twitter must contend with emerging trends in the social media market.
The question now is whether Threads will continue to dominate the microblogging social media market or if X Twitter will stage a comeback. The answer can only be found in the unfolding course of time.
